Aftergrowth by Elaine Ford Scottish artist, ecologist and explorer. Aluminium sculpture

Aftergrowth
Cast aluminium

Aftergrowth was cast directly from a botanical specimen, preserving the branching structure, veins and fragile surface of the original form in metal. The casting process translates something temporary and organic into a denser, more permanent material, while retaining traces of the specimen’s irregularity and damage.
